Volkswagen Master Frank Bergmann Receives BGHM Clever Fox Safety Award For Stringo Active Foot Protector Innovation

2023-04-05. Nyland, Sweden. Stringo, the world’s most loved vehicle moving solution, happily received the news that Frank Bergmann—responsible for plant operations in Wolfsburg, Germany along with colleagues Dennis Piko (electrician) and Mark Lüddecke (mechanic)—has received the prestigious BGHM Clever Fox Award. This safety award is given to companies for outstanding achievements in the area of safety and health at work.

Bergmann and team received the award relating to their work in the emissions testing centre at the Volkswagen plant, where 27 roller dynamometers are operated every day to run test cycles for different legislation on emissions and range measurements. Within the test fields, vehicles are transported by the test stand drivers and logisticians with Stringos, an industrial solution distributed in Germany by FFB Gabelstapler. Since accidents with foot injuries can occur when using a vehicle mover, Bergmann, his and team along with technical experts from Stringo, developed a special solution to the problem: a technical protection system on the Stringo called the Active Foot Protector. The Active Foot Protector uses sensors around a safety edge that triggers the emergency stop as soon as it detects an obstruction at the foot level. This safety innovation prevents employees from getting their foot trapped under the Stringo device.

“We mechanically integrated a complete safety edge. In cooperation with Stringo, who designed the software, we implemented programming adjustments in the existing control unit of the Stringo vehicle mover. Our technical solution has definitely led to the desired safety goal. Since then, we have not had any accidents of this type in our test operations,” Bergmann proudly stated to BGHM.

“It was such a pleasure to work with Frank and his team, to come up with such an innovative and intelligent solution. Our overall North Star that guides everything we do is safety so having a partner like Frank who develops an idea is terrific. Congratulations to him and his team, for reaching out to us to collaborate and to our great distributor in Germany, FFB Gabelstapler who was part of this success as well,” says Magnus Grafström, Stringo CTO.
