New Stringo Thermal Runaway Four-Wheel Mover and S5 Launch at Key Japanese Automotive Testing Expos

2024-05-02. Nyland, Sweden. Stringo, the world’s most loved vehicle moving solution, will again be part of Japan’s Automotive Engineering Exposition 2024 series, seminal events that bring the Japanese testing and automotive community together to review new solutions and technologies.

This year, Stringo will bring two new critical solutions to the expos, the first time these new products will be shown and explained to potential customers.

The first is especially relevant to testing engineers, end-of-line managers working with the new EV production lines, wind tunnels and dyno environments. The threat of thermal runaway—a phenomenon that occurs when a battery's temperature increases rapidly due to an uncontrolled chain reaction within the battery cells. This leads to the potential for fire and even explosion and is a threat that needs special features for maximum safety.

Stringo’s S5 Thermal Runaway 4WM machine, the first on the market to address this threat, attains this through options and features to protect operator and reduce risk of breakdown in case of a thermal runaway. Equipped with a remote control option, the S5 Thermal Runaway 4WM can manoeuvre a potentially hazardous vehicle (one releasing toxic gases and heat), keeping the operator at a safe distance during the extraction. “It’s not only exciting to introduce the S5 Thermal Runaway 4WM to customers, it’s extremely important. Safety is everything to us and we know the solution will prevent injury and catastrophic damage to testing and production facilities,” says Magnus Grafström, CTO of Stringo.

The second product solution, the S5, dubbed the next generation of vehicle movers, is a major milestone for the company, the first machine on its new platform. The S5 replaces the legacy Stringo 550—the company’s five ton moving solution—with a major upgrade of technologies. With a powerful AC drive motor, advanced user design and steer-by-wire. AGV ready and one that will help move the heavier vehicles safely and with ease.

The first event taking place in Yokohama, May 22-24 and will have  exhibitors from all spheres of the automotive trade. The second fair slated for Nagoya, will happen on July 17-19 and will reach similar automotive professionals. Sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers in Japan (JSAE) the event draws over 40,000 participants from all aspects of the automotive sector.

Exhibiting at these expos demonstrates Stringo’s commitment and strategy for growth in the Japanese market. “Our Japanese team is going from strength to strength,” says Nina Thelin, CEO of Stringo. “We’re looking forward to meeting our Japanese customers, both old and new, and show our new offerings and customisations to solve their vehicle solution needs.”
